Want to watch:

I usually don't feel this curious about an anime but I have been cutting corners. I should have probably watched some Saint Seiya at this point.

Anime Review

Casshern Sins
I watched the whole thing while unemployed... back in 2011 and forgot to even write a review on it.

*takes in one big breath*
Casshern is an android that seems to be gentle and heroic but that's because he has amnesia and forgot that he was the assassin that killed the magic queen robot who made the whole robot kingdom immortal and now the whole robot world hates Casshern and wants to kill him because robots everywhere are dying of.... robot AIDS and there is anarchy and chaos everywhere and the robots think that the cure for Robot AIDS would be to kill/eat Casshern but Casshern is an unstoppable immortal badass that goes on an adventure with his generally annoying friends to relearn the truth and atone for his SINS.
*big exhale*

Although the story is generally in the middle of the road, I actually had the most trouble with the art-style, in that all the main characters are just too pretty with their giant glassy eyes and tiny noses. I know that "too pretty" is an odd thing to complain about, but for such a dark and depressing story, "The Life and Times of talking ball joint dolls" is not compelling. Well I'm sure there are plenty of people that would be into that sort of thing...

My favorite albums, part 1

I usually enjoy singles but there are a few complete albums that I am totally addicted to:

VAST - Nude (2004)
This was probably the first part of Ross's music collection that I became interested in. Nude is probably the heaviest in the "Gothic Rock" genre that I'm still a teenage fangirl for... apparently >__<.  What's notable is the extremely diversified rock compositions, sometimes a little Indian Sitar mixed, maybe a lonely piano or orchestal backup... I'd like to imagine that Lestat ought to have been signing this (or NIN) in that goddawful Queen of the Damned movie.

Most of the songs allude to being depressed in some way and/or a breakup being some kind of personal cataclysmic event (There's a sun there's a ground under my feet/ there is almost nothing inbetween/ now I'm left like a flag atop a moon/ precious one you have abandoned me...)
So yeah it's emotional goth, but not Hot-Topic caricature goth. Don't be harshin, overwrought break up music is interesting-- I'm not going to listen to songs about cooking dinner or how annoying bills and taxes are.

VAST's best single is Blue, in my opinion. It's reminds me of the Beatles' Yellow Submarine, which is odd because the other songs don't remind me of anything else...

Fandom Secret

Sometimes I try to read fanfic in Spanish (I only know a few words of Spanish) Not really to learn the language, just for a bit of challenge and to mask the fact most fanfic is bad. Don't judge, I've been reading fanfic for years, I gotta spice it up. No wait everyone judges.

Poverty Google Map

http://www.richblockspoorblocks.com/

fascinating, but perhaps misleading. For example, I believe certain non-residential areas, such as the sector containing IPFW campus, was colored red because there is no household income there. The sector containing Fort Wayne Raytheon is also entirely business and industry. On the other hand, hoo boy the entire Southwest Ft. W. is red and orange, totally saw that coming.

The Hypocrisy

I am currently very interested in getting to read these manga.

But only because the stories are by western writers and I'm really burnt out on the normal shonen/shoujo genres. I read the manga version of Darren Shan and really, really liked it.

What's the takeaway from this? I can't be too chummy with the inlaws because it's an invitation for criticism and broken boundaries? Will your in laws start expecting you to share your authority? I suppose a manager just can't get too friendly with the employees.

Time for me to DOUBLE DOWN on feminism!

Oh god I ran into this Susanne woman again, I didn't even realize I'd posted about her once before. Now I find out she is writing books about how important the 50's values are Bob help us all. I looked over her works on Amazon (no I will not link them) and I can already tell why all of her books get either five stars or one star: conservatives give five stars for getting a pat on the back for pre-existing opinions, and everybody else is rolling their eyes at sentiments such as, "Feminism tricked you out of being a stay at home mom! You don't need a career, what you really need is a husband and babies!" A solution for all of America's problems, laser pointed at women and their choices. Thanks, Susanne.

She's probably out there somewhere, writing from the comfort of her suburban home: "Come on ladies, you and me both know feminism has run its course. Women vote, and drive their own cars! Spousal rape has been completely illegal for 20 whole years! Most colleges are co-ed! I think it's time for all of us to take a break from progress and focus on husbands and babies!"

But you know what? I know Susanne is not a big deal. I just love me some LJ bitchin. An upper-middle-class white woman writing material of little consequence to other upper-middle-class white women. It is feeding the trolls just talking about her.

Instead on whining on her Facebook page, I am filled with the need to do something... good on behalf of women! Next time I see those girl scouts I will buy a WHOLE BUNCH of those damn cookies. And then... More good deeds!

And I am totally going to post about that comic book with sexist undertones that I didn't like! Storytelling shouldn't come at the expense of the female characters, and I will totally whine on my LJ about it. FOR FEMINISM....

Oh Fox News, you make it too easy

All too easy. I don't even have to say anything, these folks said it all. But sometimes I worry that Fox News isn't genuinely interested in what it's talking about, it just wants to start more flame wars.

I'm not sure whether Fox News is trolling or not.
