Macaroni and Cheese

Today I ate a ziploc container of leftover mac and cheese. I left it on the counter this morning, so it sat out for a few hours, after careful consideration, I decided to go home for lunch early and microwave it really well, about two minutes, before eating it. The run through the microwave made it rather dry and tacky but Kraft Mac is the poverty food of choice for a reason.

Thoughout the whole affair I couldn't help but remember the saddest/most hilarious baby shower that I ever went to.

Kim-Pie left her home in NJ to be with her future husband Darell, in the humblest motel in humble Fort Wayne. It was there she had one of those casual walk-in baby showers, with one attendant, some other girl that I didn't know and never saw again. Sarah and Stephanie and I were probably the only ones that attended, I'm not sure. One of the things that I admire the most about Sarah is her sense of loyalty to any friend, although loyalty to friends can lead to some crazy times.

For the party Kim-pie had excitedly shown off the buffet that she had spent the morning prepping, which included two boxes of Kraft Easy Mac from the microwave, four hours in advance. Sarah was the only one brave enough to eat the cold dead noodles. There were some chips and cookies so I helped myself to that. We stood around in a one-bedroom motel room-turned-party for about thirty minutes... played one game, dropped off the presents, and then left. Being able to stare at somebody else's toothbrushes during a party makes things... an interesting affair.

Kim-pie took the whole affair with great enthusiasm, as she thought she couldn't have kids. I probably would have been a wreck, so maybe I should take a page out of her book. I didn't get sick from the leftovers today. I feel thankful for that too.

Movies that critics will automatically hate

Critics have a natural bias against:

film adaptations of a musical

innaccurate period pieces

anything made by Michael Bay

fantasy and sci-fi (this is receding somewhat)

any adaptation, remake, prequel, sequel, or tie in to a cherished classic, to varying degrees

1st degree: fans of the original
2nd degree: popular for a long time
3rd degree: Film Culture or Americana

My theory: If Hollywood decided to do any thing related to Gone With the Wind, anything at all... Texas would suscede. Some things are just sacred to people.

There's also a big stink about Iron Man 3 subverting things by SPOILERS: (The Mandarin doesn't have magic powers like he does in the comics)
My personal opinion? If you were not reading Iron Man prior to 2008, you don't get to complain, because that film franchise breathed new life into Iron Man as a series, and also comic book movies as a franchise.
People just hate things that are different and...

people just can't...

be tolerant...

New Eevee evolution Sylveon puts me in a MURDER RAGE I CANNOT EVEN

Here are my reasons.
1. I'm lazy and I sink as much time as I would care to on the resume and the 300-500 word long customized cover letter.
2. Only a portion of employers are going to send a decline email regardless of how much you customized, which is about as unrewarding as it gets.
3. You could detail how your resume experience applies to the job offering in the custom cover letter.
4. I am 100% certain that it's not the best use of your time, there's already statistics on networking being the most effective route to getting a job.

I usually enjoy singles but there are a few complete albums that I am totally addicted to:

VAST - Nude (2004)
This was probably the first part of Ross's music collection that I became interested in. Nude is probably the heaviest in the "Gothic Rock" genre that I'm still a teenage fangirl for... apparently >__<. What's notable is the extremely diversified rock compositions, sometimes a little Indian Sitar mixed, maybe a lonely piano or orchestal backup... I'd like to imagine that Lestat ought to have been signing this (or NIN) in that goddawful Queen of the Damned movie.

Most of the songs allude to being depressed in some way and/or a breakup being some kind of personal cataclysmic event (There's a sun there's a ground under my feet/ there is almost nothing inbetween/ now I'm left like a flag atop a moon/ precious one you have abandoned me...)
So yeah it's emotional goth, but not Hot-Topic caricature goth. Don't be harshin, overwrought break up music is interesting-- I'm not going to listen to songs about cooking dinner or how annoying bills and taxes are.

VAST's best single is Blue, in my opinion. It's reminds me of the Beatles' Yellow Submarine, which is odd because the other songs don't remind me of anything else...
http://youtu.be/1liGPNdwZpQ

Oh god I ran into this Susanne woman again, I didn't even realize I'd posted about her once before. Now I find out she is writing books about how important the 50's values are Bob help us all. I looked over her works on Amazon (no I will not link them) and I can already tell why all of her books get either five stars or one star: conservatives give five stars for getting a pat on the back for pre-existing opinions, and everybody else is rolling their eyes at sentiments such as, "Feminism tricked you out of being a stay at home mom! You don't need a career, what you really need is a husband and babies!" A solution for all of America's problems, laser pointed at women and their choices. Thanks, Susanne.

She's probably out there somewhere, writing from the comfort of her suburban home: "Come on ladies, you and me both know feminism has run its course. Women vote, and drive their own cars! Spousal rape has been completely illegal for 20 whole years! Most colleges are co-ed! I think it's time for all of us to take a break from progress and focus on husbands and babies!"

But you know what? I know Susanne is not a big deal. I just love me some LJ bitchin. An upper-middle-class white woman writing material of little consequence to other upper-middle-class white women. It is feeding the trolls just talking about her.

Instead on whining on her Facebook page, I am filled with the need to do something... good on behalf of women! Next time I see those girl scouts I will buy a WHOLE BUNCH of those damn cookies. And then... More good deeds!

And I am totally going to post about that comic book with sexist undertones that I didn't like! Storytelling shouldn't come at the expense of the female characters, and I will totally whine on my LJ about it. FOR FEMINISM....

So I read a new comic that I got as a late Christmas present, and I'm just too addicted to feminism to enjoy it. Ever since "fake geek girls" became a meme that you can google for lots of articles I've been super sensitive to sexist material in comic books. Now I'm starting to worry that if I don't like something right away I continue just to scan the material for offensive content.

Well the comic I read wasn't bad, exactly. Although I saw all those little niggling problems that I wasn't sure was bad writing or trying to be old-fashioned.

It's late this post is under construction. I got too caught up in these articles lol there is no end to them.
oh geez just one more I promise

I had a dream this morning about some sort of post-apocalyptic hunger games. It all started when I snuck into a small hospital, well it was a three room medical center capable of sergery and dentistry, as part of the overall facility. Which was abandoned. All the supplies were left as they were when the whole building was abandoned, and I was scavenging in there for medical stuff. The hard drugs were locked in a cabnet, and I was worried about setting off alarms, so I pinched the OTCs on the shelf and got a sharp pointy scalpel from the sergery room. Weapons were rare in the New World Order, and I got my first sharp pointy thing.

Although I was doing my best to keep my weapon concealed (by putting it under my shirt and clutching at my shirt to keep it in place, Ana so smart >_<)
I didn't make it too far when the SWAT team showed up to capture me. I fought and tried to cut them and run, but they were actually kind of gentle, they said they were trying to rescue me. They said obtaining my own weapon made me eligible for the their hunger-games-type-thing.

I suppose going to the hunger games was actually a step up from what they had planned for the dirty masses.

Well it wasn't really a step up. Already I could tell I was up shit creek because the rest of the kidnapped people were all men, who looked like convicted felons D:

So we all get into organized lines and then they tell about how we need to decide who is the greatest by putting us on teams and having the teams fight each other until there is a winner. I thought "Alright, our already small numbers are being used to compete with each other through death matches? This is dumb." At this point my beloved scalpel was BROKEN ;__; , the cheapass thing snapped into little pieces, so I didn't even bother listening to the great speech and started looking in the backroom for more weapons. I only got some flimsy metal rod thingys which was a lot of work to get because they were electrified, and I had to turn off the electricity for some reason.

Then I met my patrons, which were some sort of wealthy family who were gushing over me like some sort of lost puppy and showing me stuff like a bag of supplies... and they had kittens? A basket of kittens? Well then I woke up. The end.

I really struggle with the second amendment because it has so many elements, several of which aren't even relevant in the modern day. I can appreciate the right to self defense in the second amendment, but it's also seems to have spawned a negative sentiment, "legislators can't legislate our guns because it's us all vs. all y'all that's why the second amendment was made"

Ug, This is all because I have conservative friends on facebook and this video is apparently making the rounds:

YOU MUST SEE THIS TESTIMONY!!! THEN SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!!!
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151312030446726

How could I not click on that. The title itself proclaims the One Great Truth has been unearthed from the 90's to enlighten us and we will be compelled to post it on our mighty facebook walls for the world to see.

Summary: It was a woman telling a story about how a crazed gunman murdered her parents in a shooting spree, and how she is going to spend the rest of her life resisting the government's attempts at gun control. Her ending statement was that the 2nd amendment was designed to help protect us from the legislators that she was speaking to. She did have a moving narrative at first that supported arguments for not regulating guns, but man she really tripped at the finish line, right when she started addressing the audience with cliches/colloquialisms: "People! That's not what the second amendment is about!" And especially the implied "we reserve the right to shoot politicians" closing statement. I don't know why she would start strong with a personal story about the importance of a handgun and end with the "Second Amendment says we can have a civil war or coup d'etat if we want to" element that doesn't make a lot of sense.

On the other hand, I do repect people who bust their asses for what they believe in. This lady ended up becoming a politician to push for concealed weapons.

I'm not against the Second Amendment, but I don't think the majority of the actions enabled by the second amendment would even be feasible in this day and age.

People don't own jets, tanks, and missiles, and drones, and are definitely not allowed to own those things. And even though the common people are not adequately prepared to defend themselves against their own country, I still would not want common folk to own those things.

Is the second amendment really being upheld? Why are people declaring their second amendment rights if they aren't even closely upheld? What could the common folk accomplish with unlimited access to guns? What could happen if there were hardly any guns? There's more than one gun for every person in America? Why aren't people safe yet?
